Manuscript Guidelines

Scope and Focus

The Minnesota Journal of Business Law and Entrepreneurship welcomes submissions that explore the intersection of law, business, and innovation. The Journal publishes original scholarship addressing contemporary legal issues affecting entrepreneurship, commercial activity, and economic development. Relevant topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Business and corporate law
  • Entrepreneurship and startup law
  • Venture capital and private equity
  • Securities regulation and finance
  • Intellectual property and technology law
  • Regulatory policy and compliance
  • Employment, labor, and benefits law
  • Antitrust and competition law
  • International and comparative business law

Submissions from academics, practitioners, policymakers, and students are encouraged.


Types of Submissions

The Journal accepts the following categories of manuscripts:

  • Articles: In-depth scholarly works providing original legal analysis
  • Essays: Shorter, focused pieces addressing timely or emerging issues
  • Practitioner Perspectives: Practice-oriented analyses or commentary
  • Student Notes and Comments: Submissions typically authored by law students

Manuscript Length

  • Articles: Generally 10,000–25,000 words (including footnotes)
  • Essays and Practitioner Pieces: 4,000–10,000 words
  • Student Notes/Comments: 6,000–15,000 words

The Journal may consider manuscripts outside these ranges at its discretion.


Formatting Requirements

  • Manuscripts should be submitted in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx)
  • Text should be double-spaced, with one-inch margins
  • Use a standard, readable font (e.g., Times New Roman, 12-point)
  • Footnotes should be single-spaced
  • Pages should be consecutively numbered

Citations

Authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all citations.


Originality and Prior Publication

Submissions must be original works that have not been previously published and are not under consideration by another journal at the time of submission, unless otherwise disclosed. Authors must promptly notify the Journal if a manuscript is accepted elsewhere.


Submission Process

Manuscripts may be submitted electronically through the Journal’s designated submission platform or as otherwise specified on the Journal’s website. Each submission should include:

  • The manuscript
  • An abstract (approximately 150–250 words)
  • An author résumé or curriculum vitae
  • Contact information

To facilitate blind review, authors should remove identifying information from the manuscript text and footnotes.


Review and Editing Process

Submissions are reviewed by the Journal’s editorial board. Accepted manuscripts are subject to substantive and technical editing in collaboration with the author. Authors will have the opportunity to review and approve edits prior to publication.


Ethics and Disclosure

Authors must disclose any financial interests, affiliations, or potential conflicts of interest that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the content of the manuscript.
