Development of Green Index of Wipro Ltd.

The importance of sustainability for businesses cannot be ignored, especially in the long run. Sustainable corporate practices encourage responsible resource management, thereby helping in mitigating climate change risks, reducing wastes, adopting cleaner technologies and contributing to collective well-being. Therefore, a comprehensive Green Index Grading has been computed for one of the major IT & Consulting company, Wipro Ltd., in order to gain a deeper understanding of the sustainability initiatives undertaken by the company and where it stands as of today with respect to sustainable performance. A case-based study on Wipro Ltd. has been carried out and quantitative data has been collected through secondary sources e.g. company’s sustainability reports and annual reports. On summing up the scores of individual parameters, the total score is arrived at, which determines the grade of the company – A: Environmentally Sustainable, B: Environmentally Conscious, C: Environmentally Sensitive and D: Environmentally Inert. Also, colour codes – green, yellow, blue and red respectively are assigned with the grading. Green quotient of Wipro Ltd. shows that it is an Environmentally Conscious company, placed in a colour code of Yellow. The green quotient helps stakeholders easily understand the standing of a company with respect to its sustainable performance.
